New-Born Foals:
Training with the new-born foals begins with imprint training. The concept of imprint training has been around for centuries. It was mainstreamed and popularized by Dr. Robert M. Miller. Veterinarian, famed author and clinician. Dr. Miller believes that the first few hours of a foal’s life are the time then the foal’s brain is most receptive to new information. Therefore, this is the best time to get the foal used to simple things such as handling its feet, ears, basic grooming, clippers, haltering and so on and so forth. These training techniques, if done correctly, can set the foal up for success and easier handling later on when it comes time to start under saddle. |
